Now You Too Can Save The World (in ten easy steps!)
- 1. Try to avoid using Styrofoam. Instead of eating out of the Styrofoam
bowls at La Cantina or The Wok, take a soup bowl up to the counter or ask
for it on a plate.
- 2. If you simply must eat out and want to avoid any trash, (styrofoam,
paper or disposable plastic) take a plate/bowl/RHF cup of your own up to
the counter. Since the servers won't place the food directly onto your
plate (for sanitary purposes) simply ask for your food on a plate and then
transfer onto your own.
- 3. Join TREE.
- 4. In order to save yourself money and time, take discarded paper from the
recycling bins in dorms and punch holes with a three-ring-hole puncher
($2.43 at Mish Mish). Then just use the backs of these to take notes,
doodle, or whatever. Viola, you no longer need notebook paper!
- 5. Pick up trash.
- 6. Turn the water off when you brush your toofies.
- 7. Either bring a cloth sack or reuse the paper/plastic bags from the
grocery store as trash bags. Jars make great glasses, too.
- 8. Just because the label says it is made from recycled stuff doesn't mean
exactly that. Companies can pick up the scraps that lay on the floors in
plants and legally call it "recycling." If it's post-consumer, it's the
real thing.
- 9. Don't be afraid to recycle those beer cans/bottles, freshman. Your RA
will be proud.
- 10. Be conscious. Use your voice as well as your head. "If your not
helping, than as far as I can see you are just in the way."
