Gar was born on the 5th Newmoon of Tarsakh, 1350 in The Year of the Morning Star on his parents farm near the small town of Talor's Vale. Growing up, he was always intrigued by tales of high adventure and great warriors, so he used to play at being a soldier on adventures quite frequently with his childhood friends when he wasn't helping his father on the farm.

At the age of 15 both of his parents were murdered and his house was burned down when a group of Orcs raided their farm, after burying his parents he swore to rid the world of Orcs. He packed what few belongings he had and left his farm behind to travel to the city of Mirabar.

In Mirabar, Gar enlisted in the city's army to become a Soldier. He served the City of Mirabar from 1366 to 1369. After his term of service was over he decided not to re-enlist as he had tired of the regimented life of being a Soldier, so he decided to become a Mercenary and work as a guard for hire guarding the caravans traveling between Luskan and Waterdeep.

After doing this for about a year Gar realized that this was not exactly what he had in mind as the adventuring life, so he returned to Mirabar where he ended his career as a mercenary just before the new season. He began seeking out adventuring parties in Mirabar and finally while staying in the Trader's Inn in Mirabar he met a group of adventurers who let him join their group.

On the 2nd Midmoon of Ches, 1370 in The Year of the Tankard he embarked on his first excursion towards high adventure.
