December 2004 Dan and I had a superfun trip to the right coast for the xmas holidays. We stayed 3 nights at my friends Dave and Shelly's in Brooklyn. While we were there we ate yummy fried food at the Chip Shop (deep fried twinkie!) and Dan took a super hero oath at the Superhero Supply Co. In Manhatten we went to the new MOMA and it was really exciting to see their permanent collection after all these years. I also got to see some models of buildings I've been studying this year like Herzog and de Meuron's Signal Box. It's kind of strange how art feels like an old friend and how excited I get when I see an object that I know so well. I hardly get that feeling from seeing a picture of it in a book or on a postcard. After NYC we went on to South Jersey to visit with family and friends. I love finding all my favorite places and especially love it when they haven't changed one bit. I think it makes me feel like that much time has gone by. (I know I know only the dead stay 17 forever.) It was really great having Dan with my this year and I love how comfortable he is any given situation. My family can create quite the sitiation at times. Heh.
Bike! bike! bike! I've begun a new fitness plan. If you're
looking for someone to take a ride with give me a holler. I'd really like
to do the AIDS ride someday , but I am intimidated by the fundraising. My pal, Kelly, celebrated her 30th birthday in Vegas and people flew out from all over to celebrate. Party at the Ghost bar, party at the beer hall, party on the schnitzel wagon... Dan and I sat on the roof and waited for fireworks display over the bay. We came prepared with white port and chocolate Newman O's and warm jackets. By ten o"clock we gave up and climbed inside to watch the news and see what happened. We figured we would at least hear loud booms even if we couldn't see the lights through the fog. Over 4th of July wekeend, I traveled up to Sierra Hot Springs north of Lake Tahoe. Sierra is the sister spring of Harbin (which I am a big fan of despite the creepy man vibe) and to my dismay failed in comparison. Sieera is more spread out than Harbin and felt like more of a family place. Maybe it was just all the kids running around. The springs were not too stinky but lacked that certain something. I didn't quite come home with the relaxation I craved, However, we did stay at a cute hotel called the Globe which is a historic landmark in the sparcely populated town of Sierraville, The frolicking baby goats at the nearby "Funny Farm" were the best part of our trip. So cute! May 2004 Jaren celebrates her 31st birthday at the Bubble Lounge. Champagne is yum! The new jenfaith
site goes live! See Jen's new band:
Dan and I hosted games night to welcome back Taska and Robin who are living the high life in Berlin. Elise took pictures. My favorite soy jerky has not been removed from Rainbow Grocery as I had feared, but has merely redesigned it's packaging. Close one. Dan and I, while visiting with his parents in Boulder, CO, stopped by the National Center for Atmospheric Research. (The building was designed by I.M. Pei.) I sold my car to Ryan's "company" in Wyoming. Now that I am car-free, I use my new Chrome messenger bag to haul stuff around while on my bike.
